MEASURABLE

There are many ways to measure things. There are 7 basic units of measurement: length, mass, capacity, electrical current, amount of substance, luminous intensity, and temperature. There are also measurements of time and width.  We, in the USA, most often use the Customary system (inches, feet) and the Metric system (milligrams, kilometers). Measurements are very important in many situations.  As a nurse I take many measurements: blood pressures, heart rates, wound size, height, and weight, among other things.  There are, however, many things that are unmeasurable. The love of God is immeasurable. The love that we have for family, friends, and our homes also cannot be measured.  When my kids were little, I would sit them on my knee, pull their arms wide open and say “I love you this much”.  It was just a child’s game, but it told them my feelings for them in a way that their young minds could understand.

A person’s worth cannot be measured in a way that is completely accurate to other people.  We can look at their net worth and get an idea of their value financially.  We can look at their generosity and kindness and get an idea of their emotional or spiritual worth.  We can see illegal or immoral behavior and get an idea of their civil worth.  No one, other than God, can see the true and overall worth of a person.  God loves perfectly and without bias.

We had our weekly weigh in last night and the results are pretty good so far.  These are our 4-week totals:

Hannah has lost a total of 4.6 pounds and lowered her BMI 0.8

Tiffany has lost a total of 15 pounds and lowered her BMI 2.6

I (Vivian) have lost a total of 15.6 pounds and lowered my BMI 2.9

These, as I have stated earlier, are not our only measurements, but we were all pleased with our progress in this area. These are our measurable results.

I am personally having a little bit of a rough patch today.  I have realized that I have made it this far before and this is the point at which I begin to fall away from healthy eating and juicing.  At times, I have been second guessing the decision to come here to Phoenix to do this, mainly because I miss my husband so much.  Now I am absolutely certain that this was the right choice.  If I were home, I would have fallen off by now.  Being here and reminded several times throughout the day the reason that brought us here has helped me to stay the course.  It’s still a tough time for me, but I’m so pleased with the health improvements that I see in Tiffany that I’m sure I can get through this.

Tomorrow we will spend the day in Sedona.  Hannah is taking the day off work and spending the day with us.  I was surprised to learn that Sedona is not hot like Phoenix is.  Right now, in Sedona, the temperatures are in the 70’s to low 80’s during the day and in the 40’s to 50’s at night.  My kind of weather!! Earlier today we were able to see rain in the mountains north of Phoenix, but none of the rain reached us here.  I guess I have always thought that AZ is a hot desert place, but it turns out parts of this state are not as desert like.  I’m looking forward to seeing green and different elevations.  Phoenix, while beautiful in it’s own way, isn’t as pretty to me as green grass and blooming trees are.

Day 29 is done, day 30 is on its way.  “This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you.  Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” – Jesus (John 15: 12,13
