We’re officially going through detox and it is not pleasant. I don’t want to make or drink any more juice! I don’t want to shop for any more veggies! I don’t want to be away from my husband any longer! I want a big medium rare steak!! Oh well, like my mom used to say, “I want a million dollars and I can’t have that either”. I have a sense that this will get worse before it gets any better. I am trying to keep looking forward to the prize at the end of this to keep me going. Improved health. Less weight. Better sleep. More energy. And a healthy daughter or two.
Today we opened up the box with our new water purifier and a piece was missing. It’s so frustrating! We had to re-pack it and a new one will be delivered to us tomorrow and this one will be returned. We purchased purified water in bottles but are trying to avoid plastic as much as possible. I was hoping that we could have our purified water filter in place by now.
I have not worn a dress in over 10 years. Today I wore a dress outdoors for my time of fresh air and sunshine. Sunshine is a vital element of good health. I am very white – and not the beautiful snowy white skin of others – just yucky white. I have to be very careful with my exposure to sunshine, especially here in Phoenix. I will spend about 10 minutes daily in direct sunlight until I build up some color. My body, in its current state, is unable to manage any more than that amount of sunshine as I am not healthy enough. Our bodies are designed by God to be in the sunshine, but since this isn’t my usual I’ll keep acclimating. As my body has better health and color, I will be able to tolerate more sunshine without doing damage. This may take several weeks. Never let your skin burn.
Where did Vivian get a dress? – I’m sure you’re asking yourself this. Our 1st and 2nd days here Tiff and I went to Goodwill to shop for summer clothes, along with some other things. Tiff is an excellent clothes shopper – she finds the sizes and the deals. She found me this dress, along with several other tops to wear. Tiff has always had an affinity for clothing, and she owns way too many clothes, but here we definitely needed summer wear. I live in Iowa, and she lives in Virginia – we needed desert attire to wear while in AZ.
Our day overall has gone well. We are sticking to our plan. I have added in stretching exercises as it will assist in the detox process. We are sticking to a vegan diet faithfully. All 3 of us seem to be satisfied with the food that we are eating. I really don’t want a medium rare steak, just had a weak moment. The plan is to add daily exercise beginning with week 2.
Day 3 is done day 4 will begin. I don’t feel like this phase will end as quickly as I would like it to but I’m digging in for the long haul and Tiff has said that she is determined to complete this full 6 weeks. In the words of the Brady Bunch “we got to keep on, keep on, keep on…”

This is an amazing Mother/Daughter Journey! I’m very proud of you two doing this together. Know I’m praying for you. When you get back to Iowa I want to see you in your new dress looking great. Love you 💕
Thank you for the kind words Mary Ellen. The prayers are especially appreciated. Love you too
I’m glad to hear the beginnings of your journey! I love it that you’re with 2 daughters! And I wondered about where you got the dress…. Good to hear you have a thrift shop expert!
Thanks Brenda. Greg wanted me to publish a pic of me in the dress – maybe sometime soon, but not now – I’m too white still 🙂
Love that you all have accountability partners fir this journey.
Accountability is needed here – we all have strong histories of starting and then failing changes for good health. My hope is that when I’m weak Tiff or Hannah will be strong and vice versa.
Way to go girls!!! It’s not easy but hopefully the 3 of you can spur each other on when one has a weak moment! 😃. Enjoy your time together!!! I’m so proud of you!!!
Thanks Keila. My hope is that the next time I see Greg’s side of the family they don’t recognize me!!!
You are both in our prayers.
Thank you Judy. I don’t know how often you get to see Tiff, but when you do see her next there should be noticeable changes in her appearance. Lord willing she should look much healthier.
I know this is a first for you, but I love your blog. You made me smile talking about your white body. As long as we’re using sayings, “Keep on keeping on.”
Love you. ❤️
Trying to keep the blog interesting and a bit funny – it’s too serious of a topic otherwise 🙂
I have your blog in my bookmarks now .. so I can find it every day. I’m proud of you, Vivian, for your determination to “get this job done.” I always said in years when I worked the Weight Watchers program .. this isn’t a DIEt, it’s a LIVEit. God Bless You!
Thank you Helen – I know that you are praying for us also and that is very much appreciated.
