Do you ever have a really bad day and then, the next day, when looking back on it, hate what you see? I call it the day after. In many ways yesterday was wasted on bad moods, tense moments and saying/hurting those around you. No real arguments or other painful events took place, but just the overall feeling of unhappiness and discontentment. First thing this morning the necessary apologies were made and all seems back to normal. My discouragement is gone, and good moods have prevailed today. Went to church – message was good. Went to a Farmer’s market and found a few good finds. Went out to lunch and ate “chicken” fried steak and fries. No kidding – I really did! It was, of course, vegan. Not much nutrition involved in that meal, but it really did taste like the real thing. These are the types of meals I talked about in a previous blog. Technically it is vegan, but it is not necessarily healthy. This is not something that we will do very often, but it did help to ease some of the “old food” cravings that we have been having.
The weather here has been very mild. It is hot, but a different type of hot than I am used to. I guess you’d call it a dry heat, no humidity. When we go outside for our time of fresh air and sunshine, we sure feel it though! I’m usually able to tell when I’ve been out there for 10 minutes as my skin feels like it is burning. I used my new (used) lounger today and was finally able to get some sun on my back. I sure hope that no one from the surrounding houses are taking pictures of this white, fat mess that is me!! Hannah made a comment that she needed sunglasses to look at my legs 😊.
We had to go to the grocery store again. To this point we are having to buy juicing ingredients every other day. The average cost of each trip ranges from $75-125. We are using almost all organic ingredients for our juice and the meals that we are eating; this is a bit pricier than non-organic food. I haven’t talked about the cost of this venture. There is a lot of cost involved. There are the costs of getting here (travel), the costs of items needed for Hannah’s home to accommodate us for this period of time and the day in, day out cost to do the actual eating and juicing. Tiffany is having to go 3 weeks without any pay, and I am going without pay for the entire 6 weeks – this is due to lack of PTO to cover this time off. There is also cost to our families as we will go without seeing our spouses, and Tiff will also without seeing her son, for 6 full weeks. I’ve never been away from Greg for this long since we’ve been married. When I lament this in my prayer time, I am reminded of why we are here and doing this – to keep Tiff alive if at all possible. Also to improve the health of all of us.
Day 12 is done, day 13 is on the way. “Don’t ask why healthy food is so expensive. Ask why junk food is so cheap” – author unknown.
