DISCOURAGEMENT HAS REARED IT’S UGLY HEAD!

I woke up this morning very down and discouraged.  While there have been some very good minor improvements in Tiff’s, and mine health, there have not been any big changes yet.  I have read many testimonies of people who have adapted this lifestyle and most of them claim big changes in the first 7-10 days.  We cannot add our names to that list.  Today is day 11 and, other than the changes noted in pervious posts, we have not had any significant improvements.  As a matter of fact, Tiff’s blood sugars have worsened!!  I’m struggling with this reality.  Maybe I expected too much too soon.  I don’t know what is happening.  It’s one of those rare occasions when I can’t even look at the problem from a nurse’s point of view and give suggestions on how to improve it.  We have not put anything in our bodies for 10 days that has not been 100% good for our bodies.  It’s tempting to just give up, go back to our terrible ways of eating what we enjoyed and just use the rest of this time as a great vacation!

I won’t do that however because I’m stubborn and sure that I am right about this being the best way to heal Tiff’s heart.  As a rule I don’t dig my heels in and insist on my own way.  I’m open to other opinions and suggestions.  But this lifestyle and diet change I am sure is the only way to either make Tiff eligible for a heart transplant or, the preferred option, for her not to need one any longer.  I texted my husband about my discouragement – he is my #1 go to guy.  He has reminded me that I can’t possibly know how much interior healing is going on that may not manifest itself outwardly.  Our bodies are wonderful and complex things.  Divinely gifted by God with the ability to heal themselves.  They are designed to keep us alive if at all possible. What we can’t know is just what all issues we have going on inside of ourselves that we are not aware of.  A good example is cancer.  It builds up interiorly until symptoms begin externally and we know that there’s a problem that our immune system can’t handle alone.  We then “help” our immune systems by either medication/treatment/procedures or we give it a boost in the nutrients that it needs to work harder and more efficiently.  Doctors call this type of healing “spontaneous remission”.  Those of us who know the Lord and His ways know better 😊.

I’m glad to say that Tiffany is not discouraged.  She is disappointed with her blood sugar readings but even with those she is looking at the positive side – at least she is getting readings.  Prior to her most recent hospitalization she was getting readings that simply read “hi”.  That meant that her actual blood sugar level was over 400.  We started our day today with green juice – lots of kale and spinach.  Add a bit of lemon, orange, apple, cucumber and celery and it tasted good – a bit tart though.  We ate our Chipotle leftovers for lunch and will eat leftovers for dinner also – with a large fresh salad as our side dish.

Disappointments are a fact of life and today feels like a long string of them that won’t end. The day started with plumbing issues. Then I went to pick up the 2 outdoor lounge chairs that I had purchased, and they had sold one! No sort of customer recovery or compensation of any kind for the inconvenience.  The manager was very nice but I was quite upset about this. Then I nearly killed Tiff and I by mistakenly not turning a hard left turn at an intersection – I misunderstood the signs.  Then I had a minor scrape with my hubby which has just put me over the edge. I had better end today’s post before I tell all that is getting me down – it would be a long and hard list.

Day 11 is done (praise God!) and day 12 will begin tomorrow.  “Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day” – anonymous.

PS:  We went for a nice walk this evening and we are both feeling much better 😊

You may have already done this, but it might be a good idea to track what you’re eating in a food tracking app so that you can check the macros. A lot of fruits and vegetables are very high in carbs. Which translates into high sugars. So proud of you both and all the hard things you are doing.

Thank you for that idea. I am “app resistant”, but I think that Tiff may consider it. We are aware of the high carb content of eating vegan, ideally all of this nutrition that we are getting in will heal her diabetes and then processing carbs will not be an issue. We are monitoring closely and finding that her body is bringing elevated blood sugar down fairly quickly so we believe that we are starting to see her diabetes reverse.
